Pretty Plates. Questionable Manners. Meet the Vanity Plates.

Because not everything pretty has to be polite.

Somewhere along the way, somebody decided decorative plates were supposed to have flowers, inspirational quotes, and sweet little sayings about gathering around the table.

And I thought, Well, that's boring.

Don't get me wrong. I love a beautiful vintage plate. The delicate flowers. The scalloped edges. The gorgeous patterns that remind you of something your grandmother might have displayed in her dining room.

But you know what makes a beautiful vintage plate even better?

A completely inappropriate saying right in the middle of it.

And just like that, Vanity Plates were born.

A Little Vintage. A Lot of Attitude.

Every Vanity Plate starts with a treasure hunt.

Thrift stores. Secondhand shops. Unexpected finds hiding on shelves between somebody's old coffee mugs and a collection of dishes that haven't seen a dinner table in decades.

Some are delicate and floral. Others are bold, colorful, or wonderfully retro.

And no two shopping trips are ever quite the same.

Then comes my favorite part: deciding what each plate should say.

Because there's something ridiculously satisfying about putting a phrase like "Oh, for fuck's sake" on a perfectly lovely sunflower plate.

Or taking an elegant dish that looks like it belongs at Sunday dinner and giving it a personality that would make Grandma clutch her pearls.

Although, depending on your grandma, she might want one.

They're Pretty. They're Petty. And They're Selling.

What started as a creative experiment has turned into something I didn't entirely expect.

People are buying them.

Not just one at a time, either.

I've had customers purchase several in one visit, claim new designs before they're finished, and ask me to let them know whenever I make more.

One customer bought four plates at once. Another came back wanting five more.

And I've discovered something along the way.

Apparently, there are a whole lot of people out there who appreciate a beautiful plate with a terrible attitude.

My kind of people.

I don't manufacture the dishes. I find them.

That means designs depend on what treasures I happen to discover, and once a particular plate is gone, I may never find another one exactly like it.

Some sayings make repeat appearances. Others are created specifically for a customer or inspired by a particular plate.

That's part of the fun.

A little vintage charm. A little creative mischief. And a whole lot of personality.

Life's Too Short for Boring Decor

At Chapter 55 Collective, I've always believed there's room for both the meaningful and the ridiculous.

Some days call for gratitude, reflection, and finding a little breathing room.

Other days?

Other days call for a pretty plate that says, "Respectfully, fuck off."

And I think there's room for both.
